Tips For Healthy Eating At Summer Gatherings

From barbecues to vacation getaways, it’s easy to steer off our schedules of healthy eating during the summer months. Keeping cravings at bay can be difficult, especially in group-oriented settings. While indulging in sweet treats is okay every now and then, it’s important to maintain balance and consistency. Don’t know how? Here are some tips for healthy eating at summer gatherings:

Make a healthy plate

It’s important to aim for some kind of vegetable on your plate. Not only do they add nutritional value, but they also keep you feeling fuller for longer. You can incorporate vegetables at social gatherings by:

  • Trying out some grilled vegetables on the barbecue.
  • Add fresh, cut-up vegetables to your appetizer plate.
  • Don’t skip the salads!

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is essential to keep your energy levels up when out in the hot sun. Many fruits and vegetables contain high amounts of water content, making them the perfect summer snacks. Cucumbers, watermelon, peppers, pineapple, and tomatoes, to name a few, alongside a bottle of water, are the key to helping you consume more water and stay hydrated during summer gatherings.

Say NO to sugary drinks

Many sodas, alcoholic drinks and specialty drinks are high in sugar and added calories. If you can, shy away from these beverages and choose water instead. Try adding lemon, cucumber, or oranges to add some extra flavour to your water.

Portion control

Don’t use social gatherings as an excuse to binge and indulge. Controlling what’s on your plate in terms of portion sizes will allow you to eat what your body needs rather than mindlessly overindulging.
